Senior Software Engineer — Developer Platform

Team: Developer Productivity & Platform Engineering

Location: Minneapolis, MN (Hybrid)

About Us

Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. We bring that vision to life through our values and culture. Learn more about Target here.

The Opportunity
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Developer Platform team. You'll work on a platform used by thousands of engineers: a project generation system that scaffolds fully configured codebases in seconds, with approved patterns, security standards, and platform integrations built in. The platform you build and support powers the developer experience, enabling teams to move faster and focus on features that matter, not boilerplate.

You'll work on a full-stack system built across Kotlin, Python, and TypeScript along with defining AI agents and skills. The work ranges from designing the abstractions that make new infrastructure integrations seamless, to building the AI-native agent interfaces that let engineers generate projects directly from their IDEs or coding assistant tools.

The platform is growing fast. You'll have real ownership over technical decisions and contribute to a roadmap that's expanding into new infrastructure domains, AI-assisted developer workflows, and deeper integrations across a large-scale engineering organization.

What We're Looking For

Required:
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong backend fundamentals. Proficient in JVM languages (Kotlin/Java)
- Experience designing and shipping production REST APIs
- Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and developer platform tooling
- PostgreSQL or other relational database experience
- Comfort navigating and contributing to distributed, multi-service codebases
- Strong critical thinking skills. You ask the right questions, navigate ambiguity with confidence, and know how to identify the information you need to move work forward

Nice to Have:
- React/TypeScript frontend experience
-Python experience
- Experience with AI tooling, LLMs, or the Model Context Protocol (MCP)
- Familiarity with template engines (Jinja2, Cookiecutter, or similar)
- Background in developer experience, internal tooling, or platform engineering
