About Stripe

Stripe is a technology company that builds financial infrastructure for the internet. Millions of businesses, from startups to global enterprises, use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and expand into new markets. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet.

Our products support a broad range of business needs, from payments and software services to emerging areas such as stablecoins and agentic commerce.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced transactional lawyer to join our Commercial Legal team supporting Stripe’s business in the Americas. You’ll lead complex commercial negotiations, advise on new products and international expansion, and help build the legal processes and tools that support Stripe’s growth.

You’ll work closely with Sales, Product Legal, and teams across Stripe to solve challenging problems and provide practical advice. You’ll also help improve how the Commercial Legal team works, including through the use of AI tools.

What you’ll do

  • Support the Americas Sales team and lead negotiations for complex and strategic commercial agreements.
  • Advise on commercial and legal issues related to new product launches and international expansion.
  • Partner with Product Legal to bring new products and features to market.
  • Draft and maintain agreements and playbooks, improve internal processes, and use AI tools to help the team work more effectively with colleagues, partners, and users.
  • Collaborate with teams globally, including Sales, Operations, Product, Tax, and Risk.
  • Help the global Commercial Legal team deliver consistent, efficient support as Stripe grows.
  • Develop and deliver training and resources that help the Sales team understand and sell Stripe’s products.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for outside counsel.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements below. If you do, we encourage you to apply. Preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree or foreign equivalent, and membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • At least 5+ years of relevant legal experience, either in-house or in the technology practice of a leading law firm.
  • Familiarity with the legal issues and commercial risks associated with hosted data and technology services.
  • Intellectual curiosity and creative problem-solving skills, with an interest in learning complex, evolving products and finding practical solutions.
  • A proactive approach and a strong sense of ownership.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex issues and key risks in plain language.
  • The ability to guide cross-functional teams toward solutions that address business needs and legal risks.
  • A collaborative approach and a willingness to contribute to the team’s shared success.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in payments or financial technology, including familiarity with related regulatory issues.
  • In-house experience advising high-growth companies.
  • Working knowledge of large language model (LLM) tools.
  • Experience using AI technology to improve legal processes.
  • Working knowledge of data protection laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
